Testing Underway for OPTiM’s At-Home Medical Support Service at Oda Hospital

TOKYO, Japan (October 26, 2016) - OPTiM Corporation (TSE: 3694), a market leader in Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, has announced that testing of its “Zaitaku Iryou Anshin Pack” service (which translates to “at-home medical support service”) is underway at Oda Regional Medical Center (also known as Oda Hospital) in conjunction with the hospital’s Medical Base Camp (MBC) system. Zaitaku Iryou Anshin Pack utilizes the Artificial Intelligence (AI) features of OPTiM Cloud IoT OS to provide a comprehensive medical solution.

Oda Hospital of Saga, Japan created the Medical Base Camp system in response to the country’s aging population. It seamlessly provides care for patients both in the hospital and at home. From the “base camp” of Oda Hospital, this system has medical professionals visit recently-discharged elderly patients to continue providing treatment and nursing care. It includes cooperation between specialists such as pharmacists, nutritionists, on-call nurses, physiotherapists and social workers.

Zaitaku Iryou Anshin Pack enhances MBC with OPTiM’s AI and IoT technology. With this service, an AI-controlled camera can be installed in a patient’s home, and then the video input can be analyzed to detect incidents. The AI can identify potentially unsafe behavior of the patient, for example, falling down or not moving for an extended period of time. When one of these behaviors is detected, an alert will go to the MBC. The video is seen only by the AI to maintain patients’ privacy.

Furthermore, Zaitaku Iryou Anshin Pack features communication functions powered by OPTiM’s IoT platform, Cloud IoT OS. These functions include Nurse Call from a smartwatch, Vital Data Collection from wearables, and comprehensive voice and video chat. These utilities allow for simple yet effective communication between patients and medical professionals.

Oda Hospital’s experimental use of Zaitaku Iryou Anshin Pack started in October 2016.
